Boothroyd Dewhurst, Inc., Will Host 2006 International Forum on DFMA, June 20-21, in Providence, R.I.

Robin Cooper, highly regarded expert on activity-based costing and strategic cost management, is keynote speaker and featured panelist

Wakefield, R.I., USA, March 22, 2006 – Boothroyd Dewhurst, Inc., today announced it will host the twenty-first annual International Forum on Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA®), on June 20-21, 2006. The DFMA Forum will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Providence-Warwick, R.I., USA.

The International Forum on Design for Manufacture and Assembly is the foremost conference worldwide on DFMA methodologies for product developers. During the conference, engineering experts discuss their recent DFMA applications and show how product simplification and cost-analysis tools support the development of innovative designs that are economical to produce. Conference papers for 2006 will describe specific product development programs and examine cost reductions and efficiency gains at some of the world’s leading manufacturing companies, such as Deere & Company, Harley-Davidson, General Dynamics, Praxair, ITT Conoflow, Bayer Healthcare, and Symbol Technologies, among others.

Highlighting this year’s DFMA Forum is a keynote presentation by Robin Cooper on Tuesday, June 20. The title of his talk is “Cost Management for Product Design: Seeing the Big Picture.”

Robin Cooper is Professor in the Practice of Management Accounting at Goizueta Business School, Emory University. His research interests include strategic alignment and strategic cost management, and he has worked extensively with industry implementing activity-based cost systems. Among his most recent book publications is Supply Chain Development for the Lean

Enterprise: Interorganizational Cost Management (Productivity Press: Portland, 1999), coauthored with Regine Slagmulder. Prior to joining the Goizueta faculty in 1998, Cooper was Professor of Management at the Peter F. Drucker School of Management, Claremont University, and he served for ten years on the faculty of Harvard Business School, Harvard University.

The 2006 DFMA Forum will also feature a panel discussion on Wednesday, June 21, titled “Achieving Cost Goals Across the Supply Chain: Problems and Solutions.” How widely are product-costing practices being applied across the engineering supply chain today? What types of practices do companies use, and are they effective? Would a strategy for interorganizational cost management have consequences for profitability? Panelists Robin Cooper and other representative experts will address these questions and offer insights into how manufacturing organizations can successfully coordinate their product-costing efforts with multiple partners and suppliers.

The 2006 DFMA Forum is a valuable resource for everyone involved in the design-to-manufacturing process, including product designers, manufacturing engineers, automation specialists, and management, marketing, and purchasing personnel. More information is available at www.dfma.com/forum.
